I Recommend Thinking about Death with Anna Maltby Patil

Season 6 Episode 78

Change is not always what you want, sometimes it’s what you need.

Cue Anna Maltby Patil. It felt like the proverbial rug was pulled out from under her when her lifelong career working with chic magazines suddenly went from boss babe status to a COVID-induced recession reality check. Cut to her being unexpectedly let go and offered a buyout. That was the start of Anna’s FIA moment…

(Let’s rewind.) Anna Maltby was the Executive Editor of Elemental, a Medium publication, and helped lead the health and wellness publication through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, she was working with incredible journalists and world-renowned scientists to bring essential information to the masses; however, the emotional and traumatic nature of the subject matter made the pace and work - well, to say the least - taxing.

(Okay, we’re caught up.) With the buyout offer, came her FIA moment - cut to some rage, a lot of sadness, a rush of gratitude, and exhaustion! (Yep, everything everywhere all at once. 💥) This fueled her desire to look for something new and fulfilling. She wanted freedom and flexibility but didn’t know where to find it. Until that is, Anna chose to embrace the moment, the privilege of space, and start searching for a less emotionally exhausting way of life.
